As if I wasn’t nervous enough about trade, the budget on Wednesday certainly didn’t help!! For small businesses, we now face an increase in Employers National Insurance, as well as an increase of 77p per hour on the minimum wage. It seems that wherever I try to make a saving in my overheads such as light and heat or broadband, it is swallowed up elsewhere.
I read a note written by Owton Butchers at Hillier Garden Centre, which said “When you see small businesses raising their prices today and over the coming months, it’s not to make more money, it’s to stay open, keep their employees working, and to continue to serve their cutomers. Please continue to shop local and support small.”
Need I say more? I plan to simply keep my head down, work hard and only increase my prices if absolutely necessary. I cannot stand all of this doom and gloom and I strongly believe in positivity and happiness. The budget can’t touch those things which are free – love and kindness.
In fact, this week business was better and my window dispay worked wonders! This dress was a best seller and I think you can see why. It is a versatile neutral coloured dress which can be dressed up with a pair of smart boots and jacket, or simply for everyday wear with a cardigan and accessories.
My days at home consisted of a long awaited hair colour and cut – I can see again now!! – then on Friday, Ian and I visited The Pavillion at Stansted for lunch. It was really delicious – we both had the butternut and chilli soup with a toastie. There was a little wait because it was so busy, but worth it, and I must say the young team running front of house were excellent.
Until next week, take care of each other and be kind.
